You know it's just sad that I referred to Kristin Hersh as 'Kutesy Kristin.' When, clearly she is one of the best singer, songwriter, guitarists of which I have ever had the privelege to listen.
I really would have to say that she's about the best combination of lyricist, guitarist and singer. She's like a banshee that plays like a gourmand and writes like apostle of the blank generation. Only Ms Hersh is not fictional.

Lust For Lameness Alice Cooper, now as relevent as Boy Bands, maybe less...
"To me, that's treason. I call it treason against rock-and-roll, because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics," the 56-year-old told the Canadian Press news service as he embarked last week on a 15-city Canadian tour. - Alice Cooper. What a turd. Maybe retarded no-talent hacks like Alice don't know anything about politics (and maybe if he did he wouldn't vote for Bush) but there are a number of artists' opinions that I repsect.
Like:
Billy Bragg - "My job is to reflect the world I see around me. There's no point in writing purely ideological songs in a time of no ideology..."
Fugazi - "If people lose their incentive to make music because they're not making money, they're not musicians. They're business people."
Bad Religeon - "Lyxzen confesses it was Bad Religion that helped spark his fascination with global politics and his subsequent desire to try to make a difference through his music."
David Byrne - "Four years ago, people would say, 'We're not an empire, we would never do that, we're much more benign than that.' Now, it's basically accepted."

And don't get me started on MC5.

Speaking of Kutesy Kristin...This bootleg became available Monday 8/23

Pylon - Like Cutting Glass
OK, so Pylon might be (to me) like the Mekons were to Options. Y'all remember Options Magazine?

Pylon is here~Official Website~

HOLY SHIT!!! Pylon is back. Life is good once again. I might actually cry tears of joy. If you ever saw Pylon ands this crazy guy was pogoing all over the place with a beer in both hands, screaming at the end of every song...to the point of stumbling over Mike Mills in the old Cat's Cradle....That guy was ME.

OK, who among you find it strange that the Mecklenburg County Health Department is infested with rats? I dunno, I'd be pretty pissed off if my restaurant was closed by the Health Department when they force their employees to work in a rodent infested building. My favorite quote from Health Department staff, weeks after I moved into this farkatke building I reported that squirrels were running overhead (in the dropped ceiling). This yielded: "Welcome to the Hal Marshall Center."

Sadly if you complain too much they fall back on threatening us with the inevitable move to the Freedom Mall. The FM is totally ghetto. I mean the "Hal" is bad.(We had a car jacking on 7/29). But the FM really sucks. Let's compare...
Freedom Mall 2002 CMPD District A-3
Homicides 3
Rapes 27
Robberies 305
Aggravated Assaults 426
Burglaries 1302
Larcenies 2216
Auto Thefts 554
Arsons 45

Hal Marshall Center 2002 CMPD District D-1
Homicides 3
Rapes 19
Robberies 153
Aggravated Assaults 173
Burglaries 339
Larcenies 2079
Auto Thefts 257
Arsons 5
*source Mecklenburg County Address Information Center.
I don't know how much has changed since 2002 when the above statistics were tabulated?
So, I'm just as likely to get killed, but way more likely to get raped, ripped off or burnt up in the Freedom Mall.

No Rock&Roll Fun, one of my favorite blogs has a bit up about Miller Beer's rock-n-roll cans. Apparently there are black people somewhere involved with rock music? Who'd a known? Maybe Miller SAB was holding out to do 40's of Colt45 with James Brown and Curtis Mayfield on 'em? Maybe the Hendrix family would allow the use of his image if it wasn't MILLER, a name synonymous with piss-in-a-bottle? In any event, I didn't need another reason not to buy it. What do the expect from a bunch of white South Africans? hmm they should do an OE800 with Rory Lewis on it.

3hive - sharing the sharing

3hive is a growing and ever-changing jukebox of MP3s we like. You won't find excerpts, streams, or any format other than the good, old-fashioned MP3. And because we link directly to the official label and artist websites where we found these links, you won't have to worry about the RIAA breathing down your neck.

Banh Mi

Note: Don't drink crazy asian beverages.

I just had two interesting sandwiches. (I think) the name of the place I went is 'Thanh Huong.' Anyway for $2.75 each, I got 1 Shredded Pork, and one "Tuna." The Shredded Pork was good, I'd had that before. They slice up some raw jalapeño (or jalapeño sized) chili, cilantro, other crunchy vegetables, some pork, and what looks like rice noodles. The "Tuna" was not in fact, "Tuna" but sardine or pilchard. It was still ok, I wasn't expecting sushi. Whatever reddish sauce they were in made the bread kinda soggy.
In any event, try it. You'll like it.

The Beta Band (Astralwerks) is calling it quits. I just heard it on WOXY. Oh well I'm sure none of them thinks it was a waste of 7 years/3 albums.

I skipped that pic, it was too big and I don't play the unfretteds...
Your CD collection is almost as big as your ego,
and you can most likely play an instrument or
three. You're a real hit at parties, but you're
SO above karaoke.
What people love: You're instant entertainment.
Unless you play the obo.
What people hate: Your tendency to sing louder than
the radio and compare everything to a freaking
song.
