A federal audit of the Dole North Carolina Victory Committee, a joint fund-raising effort between Dole and the North Carolina Republican Party that [Earl Allen] Haywood helped manage, determined that it had deposited 31 checks received from the general funds of corporations. Such donations are unlawful.
It is notable that Haywood was found guilty of embezzling funds from the campaign and they will more than likely blame any irregularity on him. Oddly enough he's worked on 3 presidential campaigns including Libby's husband Bob's run in 1996.
